Craig Harger and Charles Buffum

              with Perry's Revenge

USS Revenge

In January 1811, Oliver Hazard Perry’s ship, the USS Revenge, struck a reef and sank off Watch Hill, Rhode Island.  As captain of the ship, Perry’s reputation and career were damaged. Yet, it is this ship’s sinking which eventually led to Perry’s command of the naval forces on Lake Erie, victory over the Royal Navy and to personal redemption.

200 years later, local divers Charlie Buffum and Craig Harger announced they found what they believe is the wreck site of the Revenge. Buffum and Harger are working with the US Navy to confirm the wreck's identity.

The PTG team plans to assist and help publicize the ongoing dive operations and possible artifact recovery, and include this site as a fundamental part of Perry's story and The Perry Trail.
